Today you will arrive in Srinagar meet your assistant and you will transfer to the House Boat. The
State known in India as Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) incorporates the region of Ladakh and Zanskar,
Srinagar is the J&K’s summer capital and jammu is the winter capital. Kashmir is one of the most
beautiful region of India. The Mughal rulers of India were always happy to retreat from the heat of
the plains to the cool green heights of Kashmir. The 4th Mughal ruler Jehangir’s last words, when he
died in 1627 en route to the “happy valley”, were a simple request for “only Kashmir”. It is here that
the Muhgals developed their art of formal gardens to its great heights. Later a boat rides in Dal Lake,
dinner and overnight in House Boat.
Morning start the city tour, visiting Mughal gardens, With terraced lawns, cascading fountains, paint-
box-bright flowerbeds with the panorama of the Dal in front of them – the three Mughal Gardens of
Chesmashahi, Nishat and Shalimar are the Mughal Emperors' concept of paradise and are today very
popular places for picnics and excursions. Shalimar garde, Built by Emperor Jehangir for his wife Nur
Jehan, Shalimar, is a beautiful garden with sweeping vistas over gardens and lakes, and shallow
terraces. Nishat garden, Situated on the banks of the Dal Lake, with the Zabarwan Mountains as its
backdrop, this 'garden of bliss' commands a magnificent view of the lake and the snow capped Pir
Panjal mountain range which stands far away to the west of the valley. Nishat was designed in 1633
AD by Asaf Khan, brother of Nur Jahan. Pari Mahal,Once the royal observatory, Pari Mahal has a
charmingly laid out garden and is a five-minute drive from Cheshmashahi. A Buddhist monastery at
one time, it was converted into a school of astrology by Dara Shikoh, Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan's
eldest son. dinner and overnight in House Boat.
After breakfast we will drive Kargil via majestic mountain resort of Sonamarg. The route towards
Sonamarg takes us on a picturesque country side drive where we will come across rolling hills, green
forests, clear water streams and blooming rice fields. We will zoom past the town of Kangan which
handles all the local needs of this region. From Kangan, we will drive towards Mammar, famous for its
trout farm before we head towards Sonamarg
We drive over Zoji La Pass (3529 mt). Zoji La pass is the watershed between Kashmir and ladakh- on
one side you have the green, lush scenery of Kashmir while on the other side everything is barren and
dry. Drass is the first main village after the pass, from here another 56 km to Kargil. Overnight in Kargil
Morning check out then drive to Ule/Alchi, on the you can visit 8m-high Maitreya statue, an image of
future Buddha, cut into the rock face and dating back about 2-5 century AD, this village name called
Mulbek it’s the first Buddhist village after Kargil. Drive via Futo La pass (4147mt), the route’s highest
pass, then Namika La Pass (3760mt.
Then visit The Lamayuru "Yungdrung" Gonpa is remarkably built on a rock, west of Leh, on the Leh
Srinagar highway. Lamayuru belongs to the Drigunpa order of Tibetan Buddhism. The history of the
monastery begins with the visit of Arahat Nimagung to this place, when there was merely a lake here.
It is said that Arahat made a prophecy that "a monastery will come up at this spot" and he made
offerings (prayer with grains of corn) to the Nagaserpent spirits. The corns mixed with the earth and
formed in the shape of Swastika (Yungdrung), later it came to be known as Yungdrung Monastery. The
Great Translator Rinchen Zangpo constructed a temple here in eleventh century.
Naropa also visited Lamayuru and meditated here. Gelukspa or Kadampa school of Tibetan Buddhism
initially looked after Lamayuru, but later; it was taken over by Digungpa Order. Its monastic festival is
called "Yuru Kabgyat", takes place on 17th and 18th of 5th month of the Tibetan Calendar, later driver
to Ule and Overnight
Morning visit Alchi Choskor "Religious Enclave" is 69 km. west of Leh, the most famous and largest of
all the Gonpa built by Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo. He appointed four families to look after Choskor, as
there was no monastic community introduced, then in the 15th century Choskor was taken over by
the Lekir Monastery since then Choskor is being taken care of by Lekir Monastery. The monastery
comprises of Dukhang (Assembly Hall), Sumtsek Lhakhang (three tier) the Lhakhang Soma (New
Temple), Jamyang Lhakhang (Munjushri Temple), Lotsava Lhakhang (Translator Temple) and Kangur
Lhakhang. The Sculptors and Wood carvers are said to be brought from Kashmir around in 11th
Century.
On the way visit Phyang Monastery: Phyang Monastery, 17km. west of Leh is remarkably built on the
hilltop, similar to the Likir monastery. This monastery belongs to the Degungpa Order. It was the first
monastery, which introduced the Degungpa teaching of 'Skyob Jigsten Gonbo' in Ladakh that was
founded by Chosje Danma Kunga, during the reign of King Jamyang Namgyal in the 16th Century A.D.
It has about 50 monks in residence. Phyang also has a festival called 'Phyang Tseruk' on the 2nd & 3rd
of the 6th month of Tibetan Calendar. Later visit Spituk Monastery: The Spituk Gonpa "Exemplary";
7km. to southwest of Leh, was founded by Od-Ide, in the 11th century AD; when the monastic
community was introduced. Meanwhile, Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo (the great translator) visited this
monastery. In those days the Gonpa belonged to the Kadampa School but Gelukpa order was
introduced during the reign of king Dragspa Bum-Lde, when Lama Lhawang Lotus restored the
monastery. The "Spituk Gustor" takes place in the courtyard of the monastery, on the 18th and 19th
of the 11th month of Tibetan Calendar. Overnight Leh.
Morning after breakfast, drive to Indus valley to visit SHEY PALACE AND GOMPA: Situated on a hillock
15 Kms upstream from Leh, it was once the residence of the royal family. According to tradition, it
was the seat of power of the pre-Tibetan kinds. A 7.5 mts high copper statue of Buddha, plated with
gold and the largest of its kind, is installed here.
THIKSEY GOMPA: 19 Kms from Leh, spectacularly sited, Thiksey is one of the largest and
architecturally most impressive Gompas. There are several temples in this Gompas, containing
images, stupas and wall paintings of Buddha, which are exquisite also called mini potala palace.
HEMIS GOMPA: 40 Kms from Leh, it is the wealthiest, best known and biggest Gompa of Ladakh. Its
popularity stems from the major annual festival held here in summer. The festival is in honor of Guru
Padma Sambhava’s birth anniversary. It also has the largest Thanka in Ladakh which is unfurled once
in 12 years Hemis was built in 1630 during the reign of Singge Namgyal, an illustrious ruler of Ladakh.
It flourished under the Namgyal Dynasty for the royalty favored the Drugpa sect, which is managed
the monastery. It is divided into two, the assembly hall on the right and the main temple on the left.
The hall (Dukhang) is also used as “green room” by the dancers during the festival. The temple is
known as Tshogkhang. The verandahs have a surfeit of frescoes, among them the Buddhist “.

The road journey from Leh to Nubra Valley passes over Khardung La (the highest motorable road in
the world) at 5602 M, around 39 km from Leh. From the pass, one can see all the way south over the
Indus valley to seemingly endless peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range, and north to the giants of the
Saser massif. It is situated in the north of Ladakh between the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges of the
Himalayas. The road after crosses Khalsar Bridge at Shyok River & enters Nubra.
Visit SAMSTANLING GOMPA: Samstanling Monastery was founded by Lama Tsultrim Nima and
Monastic community was introduced as Rezong Gompa. About 50-60 monks are residing at this 132
years old monastery. The Gompa has some strict rules and regulations. Overnight hotel in Nubra
Morning after breakfast proceed for a visit to DESKIT VILLAGE: Deskit is the main village of
headquarter of Nubra valley, which has a small market consisting of a row of shops and about 500
years old Gompa on the hilltop. Spectacular view of the valley can be seen form the monastery.
DESKIT GOMPA: Deskit Gompa was founded by Lama Sherab Zangpo of Stod in about 1420 AD during
the reign of King Dragspa. About 100 monks are residing in the Gompa, which is a branch of Thikse
Monastery. The monastic festival called Gustor takes place on 20th and 21st days of the 12th month
of Tibetan calendar.
HUNDAR VILLAGE: Hundar is a beautiful village to stay with lot of trees and you will really enjoy your
stay at Hundar. It has a small monastery and ruined fort above the village. The walk or Camel Safari
(Double Hump Bactrian camels) from Hundar to Deskit, through sand dunes for two hours is
wonderful overnight in nubra.
In the morning drive to Pangong Lake which is the largest brackish lake in Asia, with a larger part of it
extending into Tibet. The lake is 130 km long and 5 km at its widest point with half of it running to the
other side of the Indo-China border. Despite of being a salt-water lake, it freezes completely during
winter. There is no marine life here, save for a few migrating birds now and then like gulls and
brahminy ducks.
Being at the border, the furthest point one is allowed to go to, is Spangmik, about 7 km along its
western bank, but it is enough to take back the most beautiful memories of Ladakh. The very barren-
ness and vastness of the area contributes to its striking beauty. Spangmik offers spectacular views of
the mountains of the Changchenmo range to the north, and their reflections in the ever-changing
blues and greens of the lake's brackish waters. Above Spangmik, one can see the glaciers and
snowcapped peaks of the Pangong range. Overnight in camp
Today you will drive to Leh via chang la pass, on the way visit the Chemrey monastery (Chemrey
Gompa) of Ladakh was founded by Lama Tagsang Raschen and dates back to the 17th century.
Situated at a distance of approximately 40 km to the east of the town of Leh, this monastery belongs
to the Drugpa Order. Infect, it serves as the residence of approximately 20 monks of the diminishing
Drugpa community, and also their young apprentices. Chemrey Monastery of Leh Ladakh was initially
built to serve as a memorial to King Sengge Namgyal. There are a number of shrines situated inside
the monastery.
However, one of the major attractions of the Chemrey Gompa is the one-story high image of
Padmasambhava it houses. Other than that, the monastery also boasts of a precious collection of
scriptures, having title pages in silver and the text in gold letters. The successive reincarnations of
Lama Tagsang Raschen have being serving as the incumbents of the Chemrey Gompa of Ladakh, since
quite a long time. Overnight in Leh

yet again, a beautiful flight over the great Himalayas
